Juan Felix De La Fuente

When I start to paint a portrait I concentrate on understanding what I see and clarifying what it is that makes my subject appear to me the way it does…Then I paint that impression. When this is done successfully, the tonal values are right as well as their temperature, the particular pattern of edges captured and can see my image of a short lived, three dimensional reality translated into a painterly, permanent, two dimensional illusion.
This is what I love about portrait painting.
This is why I do it.
