Judy Finch

Becoming a member of the Ontario Society of Artists in 1988 and Vice President of the OSA from 1994 to 1998 totally changed the way I felt and approached my art. In 1992 I retired from my registered nursing career and focused full time upon painting.

Focus
For many years my great love was working with pencil both graphite and coloured creating abstract compositions from preliminary detailed drawings taken from realistic forms. However for the past 20 years my focus has been portraiture. I have been painting from the live model on an almost weekly basis and also during this time I have been painting members of my family, then friends and now I paint mainly commissioned portraits. Last year I delighted in having an exhibition which I called "Over Eighty. " I painted twenty-eight portraits all of wonderful faces with filled character, and the vitality which comes from a life lived with their particular passion.

In painting a portrait I hope to get as close to the personality of that person as I am able to by focusing in upon the detail within the face.
